  • Casper will deliver your new mattress, set it up, and take your old mattress and box spring with them to be recycled.
  • This solves most of the worst parts about buying a new mattress.
  • The in-home delivery costs a flat $149 no matter how many products you buy.
  • For those still concerned about buying a mattress online despite the convenience, it's also helpful to consider most online companies offer a 100-night sleep trial. If you hate it, they'll come pick it up and refund you 100%.
  • It never hurts to see if you can save even more at Casper. Check out Business Insider Coupons for up-to-date coupons and promo codes from Casper.

If you had to rate the furniture in your home in terms of ease of replacement, the large, heavy items like couches, drawers, and mattresses would fall towards the end of the convenience spectrum. That is probably why when you place that 400th piece into an IKEA bookshelf, it has the ring of finality.

But while you can live happily with the same bookshelf for all of eternity, the same cannot be said for a mattress. If you expect it to do its job, conventional wisdom dictates you replace it every seven to ten years.

The mattress buying process is not pleasant, but the Digital Age has reduced some of its annoyances. For instance, you no longer have to spend Saturday afternoon laying down on mattresses with your shoes on while a sales associate waits. Direct-to-consumer companies can be navigated with your laptop at home, and they typically make cheaper, often superior products. Those same companies make the process less labor-intensive — delivering the mattress to your doorstep (and doing so for no added cost).

The hassle most online companies haven't addressed yet are the annoyances of buying a new mattress but still being saddled with your old one (is there such a thing as easy mattress recycling in a walk-up?), and not being able to test the beds in person before buying. To the latter, shoppers should feel better knowing almost every online mattress company has a 100-night risk-free sleep trial — if you don't love it, just say so. They'll send a courier over, remove the mattress, and either donate it or recycle it. And you'll get a full refund. It might be shy of ideal, but it's a huge convenience for the average person.

However, some online mattress companies actually do pretty much everything you don't want to do when it comes to buying a mattress. Casper, for instance, will bring your new mattress to your home, set it up, and take your old mattress with them when they go — which they then recycle for you. If there's assembly required, they'll do it for you.

The service is called the "in-home delivery" and you can choose it as your preferred delivery at checkout. It costs $149 regardless of how many products you order — but it is non-refundable.  If you're ordering their luxe The Wave mattress, though, your in-home delivery is free.

If you live in any of the 48 contiguous states or the Greater Toronto Area, you can take advantage of the service.

Casper

Here's how it works: Casper's delivery partner will call you to schedule your delivery date once they have all of your products ready to go in their local hub. The night before your delivery, they'll reach out to confirm your four-hour delivery window. If you live in New York City or Los Angeles, you can schedule a two-hour delivery window during checkout.

You can also add on a removal service to the In-Home Delivery at no additional cost, so the same couriers will remove and recycle your old mattress and foundation/box spring within the same time window. The only caveat to be aware of is that you must be replacing what you are asking them to remove with a Casper purchase. As in, an order of one mattress will have one mattress eligible for removal. An order with one Casper foundation will have a removal of one old foundation/box spring eligible.

If you're unfamiliar with Casper — which is unlikely if you've ever read a subway ad — it's one brand that has become semi-synonymous with successful online startups. Their most popular mattress, The Casper, has more than 40,000 reviews between those posted on Google, Amazon, and its own site, and still has a 4.8/5 rating. The company's site calls it "America's #1 rated mattress brand" according to a leading independent consumer publication rating comfort, value, support, durability, and repurchase intent. In the Business Insider buying guide to the best mattress you can buy, Casper is our top pick for neutral firmness.

Casper prices are competitive and come in tiers by size and mattress type: The Wave (starting at $1,345), The Casper (starting at $595), and The Essential (starting at $395). For a comparison of the three, look here

The company has also branched out from just mattresses to sheets, pillows, bed frames, and pet beds among other things. In our experience, everything we've tested we've been pleased with — from sheets to mattresses to pillows. Casper — thus far — has made good products at accessible prices, and they've done well as a company because of that.

And, since it would be especially heinous to go through all this pain and trouble for a comfortable mattress only to have it deteriorate before seven to ten years, you can also add on a 10-year mattress protection plan for $50. Casper itself has a 10-year limited warranty.

If you need a new mattress but dread the idea of getting rid of your old one, you might want to look into Casper if the 40,000 reviews aren't enough incentive already. The quality is great, but you might be even more thankful for the convenience.

Shop Casper and select the $149 In-Home Delivery at checkout for them to deliver, set up, and remove your old mattress and box spring/foundation
