Fans of the Christmas movie 'The Holiday' — a Nancy Meyers romantic comedy released in 2006 — can now book an Airbnb stay at the English cottage that inspired the home of Kate Winslet's character Iris Simpkins.
Tucked away in a rural village in Surrey, England stands the three-bedroom cottage — known as the Rosehill Cottage in the film — with a quaint stone exterior, surrounded by the lush landscape of Surrey Hills. It includes an extensive flagstone terrace and a garden, as well as ample space for an outdoor meal.
The inside of the multi-floor cottage features wooden beams, an inglenook fireplace, an oil-fired aga cooker, and a heated ground floor.
The cottage is owned by Jon and Cressida Bromley, UK-paper The Independent reported. They first saw the house in a real estate magazine and bought it for £625,000, or around $755,000, in 2019. They moved in with no knowledge that it inspired the Hollywood film, according to The Independent.
After strangers started to show up and take photos of the house, the couple soon learned that their home was a cinematic landmark. That's when they decided to rent out the property on Airbnb for approximately £295 pounds, or $356 dollars, per night, The Independent reported.
In the DVD commentary of 'The Holiday,' production designer Jon Hutman said that he wanted to film in the idyllic rural English cottage but that it was too far to bring the London-based crew there, according to Hooked on Houses.
Instead, the set designers built an identical house closer to London from scratch. It was taken down when production was over, per The Independent.
The cottage is where Amanda Woods, a heartbroken Hollywood movie trailer producer played by Cameron Diaz, spends her holidays for two weeks after swapping her California house with Iris. During her stay, she meets and falls in love with Winslet's brother Graham Simpkins, a widowed book editor played by Jude Law.
The house has been reserved for Christmas, New Year's weekend, and the majority of February 2023, according to Airbnb, though there are bookings available throughout the upcoming year.
